Born on August 28: Virgo

Virgo, decan 1

Sub-ruler: Mercury

Mercury governs both the sign and this slice of it, which gives Virgo precision its sharpest edge. You notice what others miss, think in clear steps and genuinely enjoy making a messy thing work. Friends come to you with practical problems because you solve them calmly and without fuss. A critical eye that never switches off is the downside, especially when it turns on yourself. Not everything needs improving today. Learn to say “good enough” on the small stuff so you have energy for what matters. Express affection out loud, too; a fixed problem is not the same as a spoken “I love you.”

Birthday number 1

People with this birthday number tend to move first. You spot the gap, start the project, say the thing nobody else wanted to say. Independence matters to you, and being told how to do something you already understand can grate. Your gift is momentum: once you commit, others follow. The shadow side is impatience with anyone who needs more time, plus a habit of carrying everything alone. Let people help before you’re exhausted, and more of your starts will become finishes.

Born in August

August is ripe and golden, the part of summer when everything has grown as far as it will. Confidence tends to come naturally to its people. Leo rules through the 22nd or so, bringing warmth, pride and a love of celebration; Virgo follows and adds precision, modesty and an eye for what could be done better. Peridot, the olive-green birthstone, was once carried as a charm for good sleep and is now simply a stone of brightness and good cheer. The gladiolus, the sword-shaped birth flower, symbolizes strength of character. Many August people combine big-heartedness with a surprisingly careful streak.
