Planetary positions are calculated astronomically. Astrological meanings are symbolic interpretations, not scientific personality tests or predictions of future events.

What do houses represent?

Each house describes a life field such as identity, money, communication, family, relationships or career.

How are house cusps calculated?

House cusps are calculated from birth time, location and the selected house system.

How to read planets in houses

The planet shows what is active, the sign shows how it acts, and the house shows where it acts.

What are the twelve house themes?

In astrological tradition, the first house concerns self-presentation; the second, personal resources; the third, communication; the fourth, home and roots; the fifth, creativity; the sixth, daily routines; the seventh, partnerships; the eighth, shared resources; the ninth, learning and worldview; the tenth, public role; the eleventh, communities; and the twelfth, reflection. These are symbolic associations rather than scientific causal explanations.

Is Placidus the same as equal houses?

No. Placidus houses need not have equal sizes. Equal houses divide the chart into 30-degree sections, while whole-sign houses assign the entire rising sign to the first house. This calculator uses Placidus. Before comparing a placement with another website, check that both tools use the same house system, birth time and coordinates.

What about empty houses and cusp placements?

An empty house does not mean that an area of life is absent or unimportant. Near a house cusp, a small change in birth time can change the assigned house. Classification uses the calculated position rather than the rounded degree displayed on screen. Placidus also has limitations at high latitudes; do not treat results from different house systems as interchangeable in those conditions.
